Style

"New Washingtonians, even if they are not easily identifiable by their race, are generally identifiable by their style. Everyday dress in New Washington ranges from 20th Century-style business suits to flamboyant superhero-style costumes. It has frequently been said that the only way to catch a Washingtonian's eye is to go outside completely naked. Research has reinforced this; most Washingtonians are used to even the strangest costumes. Fashions run a very wide gamut, sometimes following themes. They tend to catch on quickly and settle into mild obscurity almost as quickly."

A New Washingtonians style is part of what makes them unique. Even if your character dresses like an average joe, he still makes a statement about who he is.

The weapon your character carries is a very important aspect of every New Washingtonian, a defining part of their personality. Most New Washingtonians carry their weapons in plain sight, very few choose to conceal them. Aside from different purposes, each weapon makes a statement about the individual bearing it.

Another thing to consider is the type of clothing your character wears. Is it functional, practical, flamboyant or just weird? Usually the type of people your character associates with and their daily lives will determine they way they look, unless they like to stand out.

One last factor to consider is personal touches. Does your character have any religious symbols, tattoos and/or regularly appearing symbols that reveal a little about themselves? Attention to detail can add flavor to any character’s appearance, something as subtle as wearing a certain color earring on Sundays or as bold as a big tattoo of Ellis Manteaux on your chest.
