Naturally, your character may like absolutely any genre of music that ever has been, or you could make up an entirely new genre. Here are some examples of how music is regarded in New Washington.
Pop
Upbeat, light-hearted electronic music characterized by a catchy, repetetive chorus and insipid lyrics. This music is still the most popular genre in New Washington.
Example Artists:
Ellis Manteaux: This human celebrity made it big in 2224 with her hit song Elemental. Manteaux is a celebrity in every sense of the world: beautiful, talented and the head of a multi-million-cred marketing machine. Manteaux's charm is incredible and her songs are exceedingly catchy.
Rubeus: Rubeus is a human who has undergone radical surgery to make himself into a one-man close harmony group. Rubeus has multiple vocal chords and air passageways, as well as increased lung capacity and power. While he has become very popular with mainstream culture, Rubeus is actually a very accomplished musician with a great deal of classical training.
Electronica
This umbrella genre covers a wide variety of musical genres. Electronica has gained a great deal of popularity after the Snowfall and now holds its own along with Pop and Hip-Hop. Vocal Trance, particularly Operatic Trance, is likely the most popular subgenre of electronica.
Example Artists:
Love: This House group has been a club favorite since 2221 and shows no indication of going out of style. The group's lyrics emphasize “Peace, Love, Unity and Resonance” in the tradition of the pre-Snowfall rave culture.
bt: This pre-Snowfall electronica artist was recently reawakened from his cryogenic stasis and has now begun a long-term world tour. His spanning of the various electronic genres is the hallmark of his immense talent.
Hip-Hop/Rap
Driving music with emphasis on spoken word and beat. Has maintained popularity in New Washington since the snowfall, though the lack of the culture that once accompanied it has somewhat dulled its edge.
Example Artists:
Nu Rekkid: Accompanied with well-constructed backgrounds, Rekkid's classic game-spitting music has put him at the top of the charts.
Truth and Beauty: This duo's cutting anti-corporate rhetoric has taken the ether by storm. These rap artists have used their popularity as a shield against retaliation, allowing them to get away with some of the most powerful and effective anti-corporate propoganda that has yet been distributed.
Rock and Roll
Guitar-based music has suffered a blow since the Snowfall; Rock and Roll is now much more of a niche genre than it has ever been since it first gained popularity in the twentieth century. While it is still listened to and composed, its artists generally must be much more remarkable to be noticed than was once the case.
Example Artists:
Jeans Ramone: The longest-standing poster child of modern Rock and Roll. Ramone's music is simple but very well-constructed, earning an extremely dedicated following.
Van: The legendary Bard. It is said that his music is so powerful that celestial bodies descend from the sky to hear it.
Grindfuck
The unholy love child of death metal, industrial techno, junkyard music and an angry mob, grindfuck is nigh unto indescribable to someone who has not heard it. One can argue that it is, in fact, barely music, but those who have spent time listening to it admit that there is a certain primal draw to the horrible noise that calls itself grindfuck.
Example Artists:
Chimaera: The members of Chimaera have somehow managed to keep their identities completely secret; even during their performances, they appear only as indistinct, shadowy figures. The hallmark of Chimaera's performances are fear imagery.
