Lynx (Laurie Desmond / Kyla Jones)

Reality: Anim
Race: Half-Blood Anthrocat
Sex: Female
Age: 21
Occupation: Exotic dancer at Club Chakat
Physical Description: Lynx's Anim power makes her appearance mutable. Her natural form, which she shows to no one (meaning that no matter how intimate she is with someone, she will never literally sleep with them; she'd revert to her true shape once she dozed off!), is that of a fair-skinned, blonde-haired Anim-human with a handful of catlike features: slit-pupiled eyes, elfin ears, and a layer of fur so thin you'd have to catch her in just the right light, or touch her skin, to notice it. The look she now maintains is darker, with deep brown skin/fur, full black hair, and eerie yellow-amber eyes. She'll alter this for disguise purposes, or to make a point: someone she's angry with (*ahem* Mara) might notice her eyes turning a deep red and her teeth becoming noticeably sharper. But no matter what look she's wearing in the moment, Lynx is always quite beautiful.
Character Theme: One's body is a tool to be used.

Biography:

Laurie Desmond was born Kyla Jones, a child of the suburbs like Greymara though not from New Valhalla. Her childhood was pleasantly dull, spiced up only by the antics of the local Toons and gossipy chatter with the local Human and Anim girls. Kyla's ambition was to become a rock star--no, a ballet dancer--no, a Broadway actress! In any case, she craved a piece of the spotlight, a dose of fame and glamour, a chance to do something showy and spectacular. When she got out of high school, she took off for the University of New Valhalla, with its encouraging numbers of graduates scoring jobs in cartoons, at ACME, etc. Undecided on her major, she began enthusiastically sampling all that the school and the city had to offer.

Then Kyla's dreams, innocence, and sense of self were shattered when in her second semester she was sexually assaulted by a fellow student.

Staring into the mirror a day later, having skipped her classes and spoken with no one, Kyla wished in bleak earnestness for death, or failing that, to become someone else entirely. Her latter prayer was granted. Before her eyes her features began to shift and alter, giving her a new and darker face free of tears. From that moment, she took on the name of “Laurie Desmond” and vanished entirely from the University, her friends, and her family--anything that might remind her of her old life, save for the city itself, which swallowed her.

After some clueless blundering around and some cold, restless nights on the streets, Laurie was able to acquire a new set of identification for herself, a place to crash, and sporadic if low-paying employment. Her interpersonal life was always bitter and rocky, but her shapeshifting talent came in handy here and there, and with careful living she managed to keep her head above water financially. Barely.

This latest job, as a dancer at Club Chakat, is the first that Laurie has delved back into the performing arts (so to speak), a fact she is somewhat wary about, but there she's found a quality of support network she's never managed to maintain anywhere else. That network is now known as the Twelve Green Eyes. Greymara drives her utterly up the wall, yes, but Laurie--or “Lynx"--deeply appreciates the way the group watches her back. Huntress and 99 Lives, especially, have been teaching her how to fend for herself even in the worst parts of town, and Lynx has made a strong showing in a couple of the scuffles the Eyes have gotten into. That the group's leader, Kel, is quite the tasty specimen, well, that's a bonus. This overall boost in self-confidence has a bit of Laurie's old desires surfacing, albeit in a way “Kyla” would have found twisted: she now aspires to join the ranks of the elite, exotic Nala Dancers.
