Biography:

Kelvin Masters has always lived on the streets. On them, by them, under them... born to a homeless family, he learned rapidly how to make the best of a bad situation, any bad situation, which was absolutely necessary, given that his every success rapidly went wrong. He suffered bullying from older boys; he built up his strength and made allies; those allies turned on him and became enemies. He was fired from cheap fast-food joints; he turned to crime; he was arrested again and again, building a long (if petty) rap sheet. Etc.

The skills he built up during his misadventures, at least, stayed with him, and his misfortune-laden journeys earned him a strange reputation as one who could do almost anything, but would probably blow it up in the process. Sometimes such “talents” are desired, though, for reasons of plausible deniability. OverTech Industries hired Kel as a kneecapper, then as bodyguard/prison guard to a notable test subject. They wanted something to go wrong, to see how the subject would handle it. As it turned out, Kel fell in love with the girl, and helped her escape with computer files from the experiments performed on her. Not exactly what OverTech had hoped for, perhaps, but the firefight during her escape, at least, did provide them with the desired data for future projects.

Upon fleeing OverTech, Kel met Psi-Cat, an enigmatic, telepathic Toon who assisted him in going to ground and getting a new job as a bouncer at Club Chakat. Over time, several other Animcats joined him there and made his acquaintance: Laurie Desmond, the morph; 99 Lives, the ex-cartoon star; Huntress, the zoo escapee; and Mara VanThuysen, the “sorceress” (really a non-magical blaster/healer). Somewhat baffled by his popularity with the group, and dreading what might (or rather, inevitably would) tear the group apart, Kel maintained a cool emotional distance from it all, conducting side projects like drug deals without their involvement.

The group eventually began clashing, frequently, with an Animdog pack called the Howling Fangs, and at Mara's suggestion they became an “official” gang/superteam called the Twelve Green Eyes. This means relatively little to Kel, though, despite his being the supposed leader. He's more distracted by the fact that the leader of the Howling Fangs looks very familiar, somehow. He now actually tries to provoke confrontations with them, in the hopes of catching a look at her up close!
