Much as we may not be able to imagine life without the internet, it is still a relatively young technology. For New Washingtonians, the Ether is a vital part of everyday life. Some use it only as an information-gathering and communication tool, but some nearly live there.
It is important to note that the Ether is a consolidated system; your remote shell (which is also a phone) uses the Ether, as does your television, your home shell (desktop computer) and any other connectivity system you use. It's up to you to decide how your character uses the Ether. Some find themselves more immersed in it than others.
