New Washingtonian or not, one of the most important things about a character of any sort is what drives her. What does she see when she looks into the future?
Will she be a CEO? Perhaps she wants to be the General in a corporate Militia. He might want to become a Shadowflame mercenary, or perhaps simply to gain notoriety as a reliable mercenary. Maybe he just wants a home and family.
At the same time, what he fears is an important part of his personality. Is it death? Maybe it's losing the ones he loves. Perhaps she fears that she will never have recognition of any form.
Having defined goals and fears will truly help a character become whole. Discuss this with your GM.
