Faeries

One of New Washingtons rarer, more-studied and less-understood races, the faeries continue to confuse just about anyone who sets out to classify them.

There are many theories discussing the origin and stock of faeries, but none have been firmly nailed down. The prevailing opinion is that faeries are born of the dreams of other creatures, the power of story, ancestral memory and imagination given life.

Faeries can be as varied as the dreams they may have been born from. Some may be 'little people', as small as the head of a pin, most are human-sized, and a few are quite large. They may have a humanoid shape, but many do not.

One of the two factors that ties faeries together is their powerful Glamour magic, which specializes in emotions, dreams and illusion. The actual effects of Glamour can vary, but it has a unique, identifiable signature and the irritating ability to defy any previous rules that someone thought it had.

The other trait that all faeries bear is what some call a Blindness, a fundamental inability to operate as a normal civilized being. Each faerie's Blindness is different; some manifest as madness, some simply render the creature a flighty, selfish being incapable of thinking more than a few days in the future. Faeries are generally childish at heart, and those who are not find their weaknesses elsewhere.
