Somewhere, in the near future of a world very similar to ours, the largest slum in the
history of the world sprawls across the edge of its city. It is where the poorest, the
most destitute, and the most unlucky of the city congregate, left with no alternative
and preferring to throw their lives to the wind than end them. Common criminals and the
presidents of failed corporate ventures alike wander into these slums, and each one is
swallowed by the world therein.
People call it the Labyrinth.
Some simply live there, making their way as best as they can and trying to survive on
the dangerous streets. But those who know say that the Labyrinth has its own magic to
it. They say that Gods wander its streets, that extraordinary things happen. They talk
of a girl who vanished into the sky, a man whose sang a song so beautiful he brought a
girl back to life, of a jealous wife turning her husband's mistress into a dog.
They say that if you stay too long in the Labyrinth, or wander too deep, you'll become
one of its legends. Maybe a God, or maybe a constellation in the sky... but your life
will be in the hands of the streets. Once you've been inside the Labyrinth... you are in
the hands of its pantheon. You are part of its myth.
Comments:
What was the name of the bit of literature that inspired this? I'd like to reread that to recapture the feel--I think I have it lying around here somewhere--but I don't remember the title.
This “comments only” interface on the Wiki is interesting, too. A new feature? ~SabreCat
The 'comments-only' thing is essentially me taking advantage of the art-centric style of the wiki. When you post art, you can also post a bit of static text with it as a .txt file in your account. I took advantage of that for fiction and the like. ^_^
And the play that inspired the labyrinth is Polaroid Stories. ~Dog
