Exploration - Hands
Sketch my own left hand, first skeletal structure, then flesh. Repeat with different positions; study detail and shading. Attempt freehand sketch.

Notes:

First fleshed-out sketch isn't working - fingers look wrong. I'll have to try doing it differently.
Note the shadow lines in second hand- they provide a sort of contour map of the hand.
Don't rest your hand on the drawing. Pencil smudges.
Third drawing is freehand, no reference for skeleton or flesh.
Fingers should overlap more in 3rd, to provide perspective.

Analysis:
I think I managed to get the shadows relatively well on the 2nd. My freehand sketch seems to be improving, too.

I agree, the shadows are pretty good on the second. Oh, I know a way to avoid pencil smudging - put another piece of paper under you hand. :) ~Za
