Server news log:
- 2005/9/30: In case anyone is curious, Flouri's new site icon is the kanji for life, birth, and growing, among other things. I thought it was appropriate.
- 2005/9/9: Flouri is now using a new text-rendering engine. This should theoretically result in some increased speed in loading pages, but that probably won't actually be noticeable. However, the new engine has new capabilities, too. Take a look at the newly-rewritten Formatting Rules to see what you can now do with your Wiki pages.
- 2005/9/7: Flouri has now changed over to the new system. The biggest changes here are internal, and won't be visible to users, but trust me when I say they're really good. Also, they'll allow some snazzy new things to get put into place. Some changes have been implemented already; these include:
- Hierarchical Wiki pages. This means that instead of simply having to follow a naming convention where things that are related to each other have the same names (like, say collaborations_aoc_faq), the Wiki itself now understands relationships and trees. This has three main consequences for Wiki authors:
- In general, pages that used to have underscores in their names now use forward slashes. So, for instance, collaborations_aoc_faq is now collaborations/aoc/faq: AoC Trivia
- No matter what page you're editing, links always have the same meaning. So, for instance, linking to the Wiki Home will always mean a link to the Wiki Home. However, there are two exceptions: one, if the first character in your link is a hyphen, the Wiki will interpret that link as one that should descend in the hierarchy; so, for instance, all pages under The Age of Corporations begin with a hyphen, so they automatically link with the collaborations/AoC prefix. Two, if the first character in your link is an equals, the Wiki will interpret it as a link on the same level of hierarchy; so, for instance, the The Age of Corporations page could use a link named "=maya" to link directly to the Maya page, which is also in Collaborations. Adding more equals signs will traverse further up the hierarchy.
- The Wiki itself will add parent links at the bottom of the page. So you don't have to add those yourself.
- Edit screen additions. In particular, you can now increase the size of your edit box, if you have a large browser window. This size will be saved whenever you save a page. Also, you can preview a page without saving it.
- The Recent Changes page, as you might notice, now gives you the option of viewing the changes in either direction. Also, some few modifications in the change format, like the addition of hierarchy and change in page title. Please note: since only the page contents and not the change history have been copied over to the new Wiki, you cannot view changes from before the changeover.
- 2005/9/6: The new version of Flouri is almost ready to go live. The changeover will likely be this evening.
