Game Idea

So I'm sitting in the shower thinking, and this idea for a game comes to me. Start with some proven base; pretty much any game will do, so long as it can be played by n people on different teams competatively. Preferably, it would be something like Quake or MechWarrior or something.

Take it and put it online in a huge way. Let people play some single-player missions or something to train them, at the end of which they're randomly assigned a team (we'll start with teams A, B and C). These teams represent, I dunno, sides in a war or something. As people come in, there's some sort of organization (possibly based on performance in the single player mode), whereupon people are placed in a chain of command. Then, the multiple teams are put into a two-tiered world, one Strategic level and one Tactical level.

On the Strategic level, the commanders and such would be able to assign forces and move about their armies and attempt to take targets and eventually “win” (whatever that means). As they move, their underling humans are notified of their orders, and battles are arranged. Then, it moves to the Tactical level, which is just the game -- people fight, and some win condition is met by one side or the other.

Then, you set up a robust chain-of-command algorithm, so that a team can easily fill in if their commander is missing or something. And let 'em go at it. You could even add meta-plot, give people character sheets, set up conspiracies and traitors and betrayals and ambushes and such. In fact, some of these things would be WYSIWYG, since, if you friend on Blue team tells you, on Red team, about something he did, you could use it against him or something. I dunno.

It's pretty general and non-special, but I'm avoiding my homework now, and so it seemed like a really good idea at the time.
