Sketch
A man, face and hands only, juggling primary shapes: cube, tetrahedron, cone, sphere. Camera from dead front, light source from front upper-left. Practice shading, as well as close-up of face and hands.
Notes:
- tetrahedra are annoying to rotate! I know I didn't get it right.
- I used a different technique to draw the hands than I usually do... I started a skeleton from the fingertips instead of the wrist. Possibly better?
Analysis:
I think I did pretty well with the shading. My face and hands need work, but after all that's what practice is for.

Comments:
The arch on the hands is pretty nice, especially on the one holding the ball. Woo Ho! It works! ~Neya
I like the style of this one better because it is more stylistic and interesting. It isn't just a person but it has some shape and movement. The hands are a little off, especially in the thumbs, but much better over all. I think that it would help (as you suggested) to practice the individual elements over and over again, just get the feel for what a hand means. They are pretty good over all though. I was expecting a lot more sketchy based on your original comments.
